If you haven’t heard yet, Nail It! – the first ever consumer nail magazine hit the newsstands nationally last month! The new nail-focused glossy debuted last week from Creative Age, publisher of  Nail Pro, Launchpad, Day Spa, Beauty Store Business and MedEsthetics. Within the pages of Nail It! readers will find nail art, celebrity styles, tips for nail health and wellness, the latest products, and how nails fit into their overall appearance. It is safe to say that the nail trend is strong and not going anywhere, so this is the perfect time to launch a magazine that’s all about nails. At the helm is editor-in-chief of Nail It! and NailPro, Stephanie Lavery. We ask her some questions on how this concept came to fruition.

1. What’s the newest nail art innovation out there for consumers?
I think that nail innovations that first really got the consumer excited, were super-easy updates to regular nail polish: things like that shattered crackle polish, because all you had to do was polish your nails and it created this nail art. I think that really got the consumers interested in at-home nail art. I think things that Ciaté does, like with caviar and the new metallic foils, that is pretty revolutionary. Lastly, I think the nail-art appliques, like Sally Hansen’s, are great. It’s instant nail art, you don’t have to do anything except fit this decal sticker to your nail.

2. Why did you decide to publish a print magazine as opposed to a digital publication?
I’ve been in the magazine publishing industry my entire career and I’m a tried and true print person. I know some say it’s dying, but I think people really like to have something in their hands. It’s a great magazine to have at the salon, while consumers are getting their nails done. Eventually, we will probably take the magazine digital as well, but I think that especially with nail art there’s something about flipping through a magazine and tearing out a nail art style that you really love and being able to bring it to your nail salon and saying ‘Here, I really want you to do this.’

3. Will the magazine cover anything else besides Nails?
It is going to be nail-focused, but we are going to expand on all the different beauty categories and a little bit on fashion and accessories, because nails are part of your overall look. Nails are versatile- they will fit with whatever you’re wearing, and with your hair, makeup, and skincare. We hope to, in the future, incorporate more of that.

4. Will Nail It! come out monthly?
Nail It! will start as a bimonthly magazine published six times a year, the premiere issue hit newsstands February 19th. It will be available at Barnes & Noble, Walgreens, Target, CVS, Duane Reade, supermarkets and wherever magazines are sold. The next issue will be the May/June will come out April 16th on stands.
